Nyeri - Kiharu MP, Irungu Kang’ata has been awarded for best management of Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and investing heavily in domestic water projects.
The MP was awarded by Central Kenya Forum for Peace at White Rhino Hotel in Nyeri town after his CDF kitty management was recognized as the best within Mount Kenya region.
According to a report from the Forum, Kang’ata has invested more than KES 42 million in the water sector by increasing connection to public schools which the community has tapped to their homesteads.

“The water projects have provided employment for thousands of casual laborers including women. The goal was to take water to public schools and then mobilize community to connect into that water pipeline,” said Kang’ata while welcoming the award dubbed Maji Award.
He urged both levels of government to work on increasing accessibility of basic services including water, education and health.
Speaking in the same function, the Forum’s secretary Kamau Gatwechi expressed concerns that MPs were not working on environmental conservation.
“The lawmakers should set aside some funds to conserve and protect the environment,” said Kamau.
