MCAs demand for an exclusive radio station

Nyahururu - Nyandarua members of County Assembly have demanded for immediate establishment of a radio station to enable them counter negative information broadcast against them by national FM radio stations.
The chairman of Budget Committee, James Gachomba said a County radio will help the MCA correct negative impressions created about them by their opponents though call-in programmes.
“Our own radio station will help us fight back the people we defeated in election who are using radio stations to fight us,” Gachomba, who is also the Njabini-Kiburu ward MCA, said.
His Gatimu ward counterpart, Kieru Wambui said he did not see the County government should plan for the radio station during the 2014/2015 financial year.
“It only requires KES 4 million to set up a radio station and I don’t see why the County government cannot establish one using part of the KES 11 million allocated to the Ministry of Information, Communication and e-Government,” Kieru said.
The Gatimu MCA said a County radio would be used to educate people on the roles of MCAs in a devolved system of government.
He said their opponents were creating the impression that they were like Councilors of the defunct Local Government.
They were commenting on call-in programmes carried by some radio stations where callers take the chance to criticise their elected MCAs.
