Bumula, Bungoma - Bumula Ward MCA, Henry Nyongesa, has been arraigned in a Bungoma court for impregnating and aiding a form one student at a local secondary school to procure an abortion.
Nyongesa denied the charges before Principal magistrate Christopher Yalwala and was released on a cash bail of KES 40 000 or a surety of KES 150 000.
The mentioning of the case was set for November 7, 2014 before Principal magistrate Peter Areri.
This follows a directive by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Keriako Tobiko, to have the MCA arrested immediately for impregnating a schoolgirl and helping her procure an abortion and then covering his misdeeds.

In letter written to Bungoma county CID commandant, Peter Mabeya and seen by News24, the DPP had argued that there was overwhelming evidence to charge the MCA for defilement and helping to procure an abortion.
This came after lobby groups launched several complaints to the DPP accusing Bungoma police of failing to arrest Nyongesa who was responsible for the pregnancy while charging the girl with procuring an abortion.
Girls Advocacy Initiative director, Rebecca Masibayi, has helped to enroll the girl at Matulo Girls in Webuye West Constituency where she is currently proceeding with her education.
