Nairobi - A Bungoma Member of the County Assembly (MCA) Peter Cherui escaped death by a whisker on Thursday morning, after his Mitsubishi Pajero car rolled several times barely five minutes after he had been dropped off by his driver.
The Kaptama Ward county representative had been dropped off at Kapsokwony town, where he boarded the car of his Elgon Ward colleague Godwin Ndege, only for him to receive a call that his vehicle had been involved in a bad accident.
" Today I chose to hike a lift from my colleague Godwin Ndege. My driver who is also my younger brother dropped me at Kapsokwony town, where I received news that the car was involved in an accident in Kona Tatu area, near the Mt Elgon Sub-County headquarters few minutes after I alighted, " explained a shaken Cherui.
The vehicle was heading in the direction of Kaptama town, when the incident occurred. The driver of the MCA’s car Simon Cherui was seriously injuried after the car rolled, and was rushed to an Eldoret hospital for treatment.
Mt Elgon OCPD John Onditi confirmed the accident and explained that the driver lost control of the vehicle because of over speeding.
Onditi said the area where the accident occurred along the Kapsokwony-Kaptama road is a black-spot, and asked the road users to be careful in that section to be extremely carefully.
" Let road users be careful along this road, the section where todays accident occurred, at Kona Tatu is a black-spot," advised the police boss.
