Kitale - A Trans-Nzoia MCA has been arrested after leading rowdy youths to burn a Land Cruiser worth KES 3.5 million belonging to the County government enforcement department.
Bidii ward MCA, Mathews Nyarango (TNA) was arrested on Saturday for rallying Matatu operators plying Kapenguria route to set on fire the vehicle on Friday.
“Nyarango will be arraigned in court on Monday to answer to charges of creating public disturbance, incitement to violence and arson,” Trans Nzoia county Police boss, Lilian Okembo said.
Saboti MP, David Wafula condemned the incident saying it was wrong for leaders to use illegal means of conflict resolution.
“We don’t support harassment of traders by the askaris but we cannot also encourage elected leaders to be on the forefront in encouraging lawlessness,” Wafula said at Lukosi village.

The MP also advised the county government to seek a lasting solution to end chaotic scenarios that have been witnessed in Kitale town recently following the demolition of bus park.
The MCA, who is also a former tout, is alleged to have been marshalling rowdy youths to disrupt the efforts by the County government to restructure and expand Kitale town.
In September last year, he was among the six Trans Nzoia MCAs who were charged for breaking into the Speaker’s office to steal the mace during an attempt to impeach him although the case was withdrawn through a truce.
