Mombasa - A Mombasa county MCA has been charged in Mombasa Law Courts with receiving a bribe worth KES 120 000.
Jomvu ward representative, Karisa Nzai, denied two counts of bribery before senior principal magistrate Richard Odenyo.
It is alleged that on August 26, 2014 at Nakumatt Likoni, Nzai received a benefit of KES 100 000 from Naresh Rampura as an inducement so as to calm down an alleged demonstration by Jomvu ward residents to make sure that a factory closure notice issued to by NEMA and the county public health officials are not effected.
On the second count, the accused is also alleged to have received KES 20 000 from Rampura at Nakumatt Likoni.
Last week, the prosecutor Eugene Wangila asked the court to adjourn the case to September 1 after Nzai failed to appear before the court.
He was released on a bond of KES 200 000 with a surety or an alternative cash bail of KES 100 000.
The case will be heard on November 11.
