Murang'a - A lorry driver died instantly after the lorry he was driving lost control and rammed into a stationary 14-seater matatu along the Kenol-Sagana road.
The truck that was ferrying building stones towards Sagana lost control at Kambiti area, hitting the matatu from behind forcing it to veer off the road, plunging into a ditch.
Murang’a south OCPD, Charles Koskei confirmed the incident saying that a number of the passengers in the matatu sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Thika Level Four hospital.
“Local residents with help of police officers rescued matatu passengers from the wreckage and rushed them for treatment at the Thika hospital where some were treated and discharged but others have been admitted,” added Koskei.

The accident caused a snarl up on the busy road, posing a challenge to traffic officers who took several hours to clear the jam.
The two vehicles were towed to Makuyu police station as investigations commenced to establish the cause of the accident.
Koskei urged drivers to be careful while driving along the road which has sharp corners, saying traffic officers are still conducting impromptu road inspection to arrest drivers who are flouting traffic rules.
