Local teams on a winning streak at Volleyball Championships

11 May 2012, 11:47John Maigwa

Kenyan teams began their quest for African glory as the women’s volleyball African Club Championships served off on Thursday afternoon at the Moi Sports Centre Kasarani and the African Nazarene University Gymnasium. All of Kenya’s representatives registered straight set wins in their opening fixtures.

African Champions Kenya Prisons played their first match at the Nazarene Gymnasium and shook off VC Canon of Congo by three straight sets.

The Prison ladies took the first set easily 25-10 but had to endure a hard fight from the Congolese in the second set winning 25-19. The third set was more like the first where Prisons were superior winning 25-13.

Kenyan Champions Kenya Pipeline also had a flying start winning with straight sets. The Ladies in black had an easy stroll in their match completely outclassing their opponents Manga Sport from Gabon, beating them 25-2, 25-15 and 25-4.

Kenya Commercial Bank also had a flier of a start winning by three straight sets against Ivory Coast’s Stella Club. The bankers won the first set 25-9 before cementing their lead with a 25-10 win in the second set. Stella tried hard to win a set in the third, but KCB showed their prowess winning 25-17.

In other results of matches played on Thursday, Madagascar’s Steff beat Ethiopia’s Water Sport 3-0 (25-20,25-22,25-18), Mafolofolo from Botswana beat DC Motema Pembe from DRC 3-1 (24-26,25-13,25-20,25-17), Nigeria’s Blue Angels beat DGSP from the Congo 3-0 (25-23,25-21,25-15)
