Local group returns with Mpesa deal

23 September 2014, 13:20 Eugene Odanga

Nairobi - It seems like a year since last we heard from the P-Unit, one of the most influential hip-hop group in the country.

Last anyone heard from them was in February when they released their auto tune heavy “L.O.V.E” track which has since become one of the hottest club hits in Nairobi. The boys have broken their musical silence with the release of the posters and material for their upcoming track called “Weka Weka”.

The track is set to be released this Friday September 26 2014 and will be available for purchase via M-pesa through a service called Mziki na M-pesa. It allows you to send KES 20 to a pay bill number, which will in turn send back a link for download. The Pay bill number is 866256 and the tracks will be sent to a person’s data enabled handset within an hour of confirming payment.

The trio seem to have had quite a character change in the 6 or so months that they have been away, trading their usual hip hop oriented look for a slightly more formal look. Die hard P-Unit fans might be opposed to this change but frankly I think they look better like this.

Whether the changes have spilled over onto their music as well is a matter that can only be left to speculation until the tracks release on Friday.
