Listen to 'baraka za mungu', the SOC version

06 August 2014, 17:25 Eugene Odanga

Nairobi - If you have ever been to any church in this country, or have been to any Christian event in the country, you definitely know this song. It is a rendition of a church favorite called “Baraka za Mungu”, which in my opinion is infinitely better than the original, which was to be honest, rather dreary and uninspiring.

This version, sung by the group Saints of Christ SOC, on the other hand is the direct opposite of dreary and uninspiring. The first thing it does is capture your attention with its strong beat and amalgamation of instruments including what sounds like an old coke bottle being scratched by a coin.

The vocals are done to perfection, and the fact that they have a good mix of languages in the song’s lyrics gives it an added richness. It has a distinctly 'Chakacha' feel to it, which encapsulates the richness of culture and style in Kenyan music.

This song is a must listen to any lover of music, regardless of whether or not you listen to Gospel music. The Saints of Christ have truly outdone themselves this time in this new epic track which you can listen to here: http://youtu.be/AGjVoqFv8RQ
