Limuru Rd renamed after Nobel Laureate Wangari Maathai

Nairobi - Limuru Rd in Nairobi will be renamed the Wangari Maathai road following deliberations by the Nairobi County government and assembly.
The announcement was made following a motion put through by Members of the Nairobi County Assembly who tasked Governor Evans Kidero to make the change in honour of the late Nobel Laureate Maathai.
Maathai passed on in 2011 after a long battle with cancer.
She was feted the world over for her work in trying to ensure the country's forests and especially the Karura Forest are not misused and the country's forest cover depleted.
" The country has named a road after Tanzania President Jakaya Kikwete and forgotten about our very own hero Wangari Maathai," Karura MCA Kamau Thuo said in his motion.
Limuru road is especially important in this facet as it borders the Karura Forest which Maathai fought for decades to have protected and gazetted as a a key national monument.
Kidero has been ordered to make the change by the end of the week.
Kikwete had a half kilometre stretch of road along State House Rd named after him Tuesday by Kidero.
