Life sentence for stealing KES 450

A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment by Nyando law court for robbery with violence.
Felix Omondi Odhiambo pleaded guilty to having robbed a woman, Rose Opar, off KES 450 together with a Nokia phone valued at KES 2 950 and slapped her on the chin using a sharp panga.
Omondi got the harsh sentence delivered by Nyando Senior Resident Magistrate Bethwel Kimutai and will have to cool his feet for the rest of his life at Kodiaga GK Prison.
The accused is said to have committed the offense on July 8, 2013 at Kabar central sub-location in Muhoroni District.
He told the prosecution led by Inspector Onyango Ogelo that indeed he had committed the offense but returned the phone later.
Omondi pleaded with the court for leniency but Magistrate Kimutai said the law is clear on the penalty for such a serious offences and proceeded to hand him the life long jail term.
However, the Magistrate said Omondi as the accused person had the right to appeal against the sentence.
In the same court, a man was charged with stealing KES 542 092 cash and a TV set valued at KES 26 000.
Remjius Omollo Onyango was charged before Nyando Senior Resident Magistrate Bethwel Kimutai with stealing by servant contrary to section 281 of the Penal Code.
Onyango was alleged to have committed the felony on May 17, 2013 at Koroga County Club in Muhoroni.
It was alleged that the suspect was employed as a servant by Pollycarp Ochola from whom he stole the goods and cash.
Onyango also faced an alternative charge of handling stolen property contrary to section 322 of the Penal Code.
However, Onyango denied the charges and was released on a bond of KES 300 000 and surety of a similar amount.
The accused could not immediately raise the bond and was remanded in custody.
Magistrate Kimutai set the case for mentioning on June 26, 2013 and hearing on July 15, 2013.
