Let Kenyan women dress the way they want

Nairobi - Over the years, the office space has experienced a dramatic
change in its operations, structure as well as in conduct rules and
regulations. I do not know about the governmental offices though; last time I
visited one they still look the same and do things the same.
But let us skip over
to the corporates, NGOs, startups and the likes. Most have adopted a more
casual and open setting when it comes to their work environment. The Google
offices are for me one of the best; most techies want to work there, even I
want to work there. It is not only the space that has taken a re-invention but
how we dress to work has also taken an about turn. We do not need to wear suit
and ties and that is really nice because apart from being too expensive when
you think of having a different suit for every day of the week (unless you plan
to rewind), they are also just
constricting and uncomfortable. On the other hand some people are taking it too
By other people I mean the women because I cannot see a man
wearing a too tight sweater or pants or a shirt that is popping buttons at the
chest. I once heard a lecture by
Caroline Mutoko when she was talking about the type of clothes that women need
to wear and part of it mentioned the length of the skirt. For her, it should
either reach the knees or be really long; I need to add the pencil skirt to the
list though. Some women on the other hand seem to not know where there knees
are. Being sexy is not about you wearing a skirt that is too short that you
need to pull it down every few minutes or too tight that you can’t breathe when
you seat down. If you are not comfortable, it shows and that is not sexy.
Then there are the shirts and blouses that pop buttons every
time you breathe or open it all the way to your bra. If it is at work do not
let your bra show unless you are garnering for a sexual harassment case. Then
there are those ladies with bad hygiene, you pop the top buttons yet the bra is
dirty. A white bra with brown marks is never a good look. Even the colored ones
show dirt by the way. If not that, it is torn and tattered, that is not a good
look. If you have to show it then at least let it be worth it.
Moving on to the pants; if you have to wear it tight and
fitting at least let it not show your panty lines or break at the seams. Or the
ones where you sit or bend over, we see your kingdom come. Find something that
is your size. You look better comfortable rather than when you are struggling
to walk or hide a tear in all the wrong places.
Fitting or A-line dresses at work are better than a maxi
dress that you wore at some wedding that you need to put a scarf top to cover
the cleavage. If it was for a wedding then it most definitely is not for work.
At the end of the day no-one will tell you that what you are
wearing is bad because you will get offended. But at least listen to me or
Caroline if need be so that you do not embarrass yourself; some looks are
better left at home or at the vendor’s stall not the
