Leopard Beach Resort starts expansion programme

07 October 2014, 09:21 John Kioko

Diani - Leopard Beach Resort in Diani Kwale has started expanding its market segment by penetrating into local tourism industry.

In its bid to see more visitors enjoying and appreciating wonderful unique products, Leopard Resort program manager, Ann Safari said they are venturing into the corporate market in Mombasa.

Safari said that they have invested a lot in the hotel which has seen them scoop three awards including Africa Leading Star Resort, Kenya Leading Resort and Kenya Leading Beach Resort.

“We realized that the international market knows us very well but our immediate neighbors don’t know our products that's why we started visiting corporate companies for them to come and see by themselves,” she said.

“Basically the people who vote for the travel world awards are professionals and guests who have stayed with us and friends of Leopard beach who know the resort very well and what we offer,” she noted.

Addressing the media at the hotel premises on Sunday, Safari said that they have a total of 28 villas with 2 or 3 bedroom villas each with a swimming pool.

She said beside retreat and team building, they are also looking at individual corporate members coming in with families as domestics tourists.

“That's why we have come up with team building packages, family packages, wedding packages all this to redefine cooperate market and embrace other potential guests,” she added.

The travel advisories by western countries and negative publicity, she said, has caused low tourists turnout with the hotel not having even 25 percent occupancy since they re-opened in July.

“We decided to re-strategise after the travel advisories in a bid to redefine and be more dynamic with our market segments and penetrate to the corporate market," she added.

“Few tourists who have stayed with us have appreciated and responded very well in terms of security despite what is being said,” she said.

She said that the corporate market has responded well and so they have so many businesses like retreats, end of year parties and team building events booked.

On Monday, Leopard resort had planned to host over 70 travel agents from Nigeria, Turkey, Zimbabwe, Ghana and Austria among other countries to celebrate as Diani was voted the best beach destination in Africa.

She said the event organized by Kenya Tourism Board and County Government of Kwale will market the area which has been affected by travel advisories.
