Mombasa - The management of Leisure Lodge resort in Diani is ready to host the fifth Magical Kenya Travel expo, chief executive officer John Mutua has said.
Mutua said that all is set for the event scheduled from 4 to 17 October this year.
Speaking during the official unveiling of MKTE venue at Leisure Lodge resort on Monday, Mutua said the event is critical to the tourism sector which has been at the verge of collapse due to insecurity issues.
“We are ready to make the event a success. We have hosted such an event before and so there should not be anyone worrying about it,” said Mutua.
He was accompanied by Kwale Governor, Salim Mvurya and Kenya Tourism Board managing director Mureithi Ndegwa among others.
The event, according to Mureithi Ndegwa, will see about 176 buyers bringing together a representation of over 35 countries from across the globe.

“The buyers include travel agents, tour operators, hoteliers and trade media from Kenya's key tourism source markets including Europe, Africa, Asia and America have confirmed attendance,” he said.
Ndegwa said the event whose theme is ‘Sustainability; Keeping the magic Alive,’ will be an opportunity to profile Diani globally after it was named the Africa’s leading beach destination by the World Travel Awards (WTA) two month ago in Seychelles.
“It also reinforces safety of our coastal region which is blessed with pristine products and other diverse tourism attractions. The County will have the opportunity to showcase other products besides the beach,” he said.
Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya said his government had set aside KES 5 million to support MKTE event.
Mvurya said the event gives the country a vote of confidence in terms of investments.
He assured international and local exhibitors that security is okay and that the County government (the host) in partnership with security department will ensure everyone is safe.
Already, Mvurya has confirmed that his government has installed 10 kilometers of street lighting along the beach road to enhance security among visitors and locals.
"We are glad the international community has lifted the travel advisories and that is why tourism is getting back to normal in this area,” said the Governor.
