Learn to Silence your Inner Critic

Nairobi - Your inner critic may be one of biggest obstacles standing in your way of being the best and reaching your goals. A pattern of negative self-talk that pops up over and over in your head may be the reason you are lagging behind in nailing your most coveted promotion, advancing your education, meeting the right partner, starting up a business or even becoming a better social being.
When you make mistakes or fail in achieving what you set out to do, an inner voice tells you that you should have predicted the failure and that you will fail again. The inner critic drags your self-esteem further down by convincing you that you are not as good as someone else, your life is miserable, you are not loved, or you are not as good looking as another. The inner critic gets louder and louder when you just sit and allow it to soar. Someone once said that self-critic is like an inner bully that specializes in self-put-downs, self-blaming and character assassination. The negative thought patterns destroy your confidence and make you doubt your abilities. Your mind, heart and eyes are barred from seeing the possibilities and your capabilities. The inner critic tells you that the world is full of cons and deceitful people. It teaches you not to trust or believe in anything. In the end, the influence of the inner critic is dreadful; it crushes your self-worth and confidence and traps you in unhappy relationships and careers.
I know how much many of us struggle with this inner critic. We walk through our days with these lethal inner messages that hold us back and make us act in obnoxious manners. When it becomes worse, we turn the critical voice outwards and attack others. In the end, the inner critic propels us to become abusive, lack understanding and destroy relationships.
Being able to turn the inner critic around and suppress it as soon as it pops up is thus essential. To shut down the inner critic, we must first identify it and then deal with it. Refer to the negative thought patterns above and there lays your inner bully. Design ways of suppressing it and obliterating it completely. Write down the disadvantages of the inner critic and you will be amazed at how much you will work to change your train of thought. Remember, if we fail to silence the inner critic, we remain its victim all our lives.
