Nairobi - President Uhuru Kenyatta has mourned Homabay Senator, Otieno Kajwang’ who died on Tuesday night.
The president said he learnt of the late Kajwang’s death with great shock and deep sorrow.
“Senator Kajwang’s death is not only a big blow to his family but also to the people of Homa Bay County and the whole country which he served with commitment and dedication first as a Member of Parliament, a Minister and a senator,” President Kenyatta said in his condolence message.
He said he will always remember Senator Kajwang’ as an eloquent debater, a patriot and a nationalist.
“Indeed, it is hard to comprehend how the cruel hand of death has so suddenly snatched Senator Kajwang’ from our midst. He was an energetic, jovial and an extremely pleasant person to deal with,” said President Kenyatta.
“The death of Senator Kajwang reminds us of how fickle human life can be. It is, therefore, difficult for anyone of us to find the right words with which to express ourselves at such a sad time,” the president added.

He conveyed his deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to the late Senator’s family, relatives, friends and the people of Homa Bay who he served diligently.
Bomet County Governor, Isaac Ruto also sent condolences message to Kajwang’s family on behalf of the Council of Governors.
“I have known the late Kajwang’ for many years now, during which time we have worked together as Members of Parliament and in more recent times as members of Kenya’s devolved fraternity. Senator Kajwang was gifted with brilliant intellect, which he placed at his country’s disposal as a patriotic, incisive and eloquent legislator. He took broad and informed positions on issues, always standing on the side of reason and the common good,” Ruto said.
He said the Senate, and by extension Kenya’s devolved family, has lost a gallant soldier and strident advocate for the principles and objectives of devolution. “We will miss his invaluable contribution to debates and his exceptional wit and sense of humour. May God console his family and friends, and give them the strength to bear the sudden tragic loss,” Ruto added.
