Nakuru - A 3-year-old girl died on Sunday night following a fierce fire that caught their house at Langa Langa estate along the Kanu street in Nakuru town.
An eyewitness, Judith Wambui, said there were three children at one of the houses during the incident but they only managed to save two.
“We only saw a huge smoke coming from the houses and that’s when we rushed to the scene and managed to save only the two,” she said.
Confirming the incident, Nakuru police boss Bernard Kioko said that two houses were destroyed during the deadly inferno.
The OCPD said that a 4-year-old child was also rushed to Nakuru Provincial Hospital after sustaining some serious burns.
“So far, we only have one casualty of a child who perished in the inferno. Two other children were saved by the neighbors,” he said.
He confirmed that police have launched investigations into the cause of the fire and urged the public to volunteer any information that might help establish the root of the inferno.
However, the local residents faulted the fire fighters for taking a while to respond to the distress call saying the 3-year-old child would have been saved if they had arrived on time.
