Nyeri - Two people have been arraigned in a Murang’a court for conning Murang’a Governor’s wife, Jane Waigwe out of KES 4.8 million.
The two land dealers, Lucy Wangechi and Joseph Kamande allegedly sold Mwangi wa Iria's wife a five-acre piece of land at Maragua sub-County whose documents were fraudulently acquired, the court heard.
They were further accused of jointly presenting a forged share certificate at the Murang’a lands office transferring land number Makuyu/Kariaini/Block III/20 from the original owner, Samuel Magaga, to themselves.
Wangechi was charged with four other counts of forging Samuel Magaga’s signature on a document, forging Utonga sub-location assistant chief, Walter Okelo Odera’s document, forgery of the chief’s stamp and knowingly presenting a false document.

It was after committing these offences that the two sold the piece of land to the Governor’s wife.
She realized that she had been conned after she started excavating the land to construct a dam, when the original land owner showed up and filed a complaint in court.
However, the suspects denied all the offences while appearing before Chief Magistrate Lucy Mutai.
They were each released on a cash bail of KES 1.5 million and a surety of similar amount.
The case will proceed on October 20.
