Lamu west MP released on KES 1M bail

Lamu - Lamu West Member of Parliament, Julius Ngegwa has been released on a cash bail of KES 1 million after denying charges of misappropriation of CDF kitty funds.
Appearing before resident Magistrate Susan Shitubi, Ndegwa was charged with conspiring to commit an economic crime alongside four other CDF officials.
It is alleged that on diverse dates between July 1, 2013 and October 30, 2013 within Lamu county, being members of the CDF committee they jointly through corrupt and fraudulent practices caused an irregular transfer of KES 1 675 000 from the Lamu CDF account.
They faced a second count of irregularly reallocating KES 1.6 million that had been allocated for the construction of Witu Livestock Cattle dip, and misappropriated the same KES 1.6 million.

Senior state prosecutor Alexander Muteti however applied for a warrant of arrest against two respondents, Cornell Tuva and Alfred Mnjaema who were not present at the court.
“The two respondents were informed about the court proceedings but have failed to appear in court,” said Muteti.
However, defense council applied for the release of the accused on personal bail terms following the same directive by a high court in Nairobi.
“I apply that the the respondents be subjected to the same personal bail terms as did judge Kimaru in the Nairobi high court,” said Kahindi.
