Lamu - Security agents in Lamu county are on high alert following the arrest of two terror suspects in Mombasa on Monday.
Lamu county commissioner, Stephen Ukua has called on all security apparatus and civilians in the region to be more vigilant and provide information on any suspicious characters.
The police boss said Lamu is a border county which makes it a target for terror attacks, and urged residents not to panic since his team had already beefed up security on the ground.
“We have deplored our forces everywhere and am calling on you to be calmer and provide any information that will help us fight terrorism,” said Ukua.
He said that terrorism is a worldwide threat and the security forces are not leaving anything to chance.
“We border Somalia were Al Shabaab insurgents have in the past used this region to make entry into our county but that will not happen again as security apparatus are intact in this region,” said Ikua.
The county commissioner warned that terrorism attack does not discriminate on tribal, religious and cultural grounds and called upon residents to take security matters seriously.
He also cautioned human resource offices in the region to be more vigilant and vet all job applicants so as to ensure there is no use of fraudulent documents.
