Lamu Sea Port project set to begin in December

Mombasa - The Kenya Ports Authority chairman Danson Mungatana has said that construction work at the Lamu Port is set to begin in December 2014.
Mungatana said the project was delayed by the ongoing process of registration and identification of those who lost their and want to be compensated.
Speaking to the press at the Mombasa weekly Rotarian gathering, Mungatana said the compensation process was also delayed because majority of those affected by the project had inherited land had had no any valid document to prove the ownership.
“Once the issue of landownership among the residents is solved we will be able to compensate those affected and commence the project," Mungatana said.

He said the Ministry of Lands and the National Lands Commission halted the project so as to ensure that all those who were affected by the project are compensated.
He said all the procedure and laws of compensation are being followed to the latter to ensure that no one is locked out when the compensation exercise begins.
