A five member gang which was armed with two AK 47 rifles shot a man inside a bar at Karai trading center in Laikipia Central.
The 37 year old farmer was on a drinking spree with his friends inside the bar when the bandits attacked and shot him dead.
Confirming the incident which occurred on Wednesday night, Laikipia East police boss Joshua Lutukai said that the gang shot Sammy Mwangi after he told them that he had no money.
“The five men entered the bar, went straight to where Mwangi was and demanded for cash. They then frog marched him to his vehicle which was parked outside and searched it thoroughly. When they found that he had no money, they shot him dead and ran away”, explained Lutukai.
Lutukai added that the farmer had just bought a piece of land in the area and this is why the thugs suspected he had money.
"They did not harm anyone else in that bar and I think this was a well planned crime that targeted the farmer," continued Lutukai.
However, the police commander said that they are pursuing the bandits and proper investigations have been launched on the matter.
The body was taken to Nanyuki District hospital.
