Ladies! Watch out for the conman
03 March 2015, 16:03
Nairobi - A lonely woman makes for easy pickings for a conman. I am
not talking about a conman that just wants your few shillings and savings and
goes away. I am talking about a lifetime conman. The one
that sucks you in for the first few rounds, a few months later something
happens, he is down but you stick with his because the story is legit enough.
You know how we talk about gold diggers and when that word
is used, more often than not, it refers to some woman. I looked for the gender
part that justifies it being exclusively female and I can safely say I did not
see one. So men can also be gold diggers. I am not talking about a different
culture but here in Kenya and I am not talking about a sugar mummy type of
situation but a normal relationship. In this case, the young lady in question is the hard worker, toiling to make something
of herself and making money. The man on the other hand just spotted her and
decided it will serve him well to have her in his life for a lifetime.
The scenario plays out like this. She lives abroad and is
currently schooling there- for both a degree and a Masters, at the same time
while holding two to three jobs. She flies in from time to time to visit. So on
this one time visit, she meets Tom* at a high end club. They exchanged numbers
and on her next visit he took her to his house in Muthaiga. So on one random
visit, he apparently got robbed, a scam, hadi
he had to move to South C where she now visited him. On Valentine’s Day he took
her to Villa Rosa Kempinski though but let me educate some Kenyan ladies on
some common sense.
I have to address this part because even as I was being
narrated to the tale, the narrator also a lady did not seem to think that this
story was a bit too far-fetched. Kenyan women, do not think that only your
fellow women are the only ones that can be devious the men can be too.
Fact No.1 No wealthy man, with a house in Muthaiga can be
robbed just one time and it makes him so poor that he has to retrace his roots
until he ends up in South C (nothing wrong with South C just that when you put
it on a balance with Muthaiga… you get the point). Wealthy men are wise men,
they rarely get hooked into scams and if they do get into even one they most
assuredly did not spend all their life investment, and also put up the house(s)
into that scam. I can safely assume that a. this guy borrowed the house to show
off b. he was house sitting or c. he works at that house. His real place was
that South C house from the beginning.
Fact No.2 A right thinking man, who is trying to make better
investment decisions will not take most of the remaining money and blow it up
in one of the most expensive restaurants. He will hope you understand the
situation, and settle for something manageable. If you do not then you can go
because he has nothing to lose. In this case, this man was still trying to
prove something so that he does not lose his big fish.
My girl here is being set up for a lifetime scam and I will
most definitely not be the one to tell her no matter how much it itches me. As
a person who writes on relationships, I talk very frankly and I do end up
stepping on people’s toes, especially female ones. It is even worse when it is
a new relationship, far be it from me to be the one that does not want people
to be happy.
