Nakuru - Labour Day celebrations did not take place in Nakuru County.
Afraha stadium, where the celebrations were expected to take place, remained deserted with the only people spotted there being women who were practicing for the upcoming two-day soccer competition.
Workers in Nakuru accused the Central Organization of Trade Union (COTU) for failing to facilitate organization of the event.
Spin Knit workers arrived at the stadium to showcase their products but were shocked to find nothing ongoing at the stadium.
According to Elisha Kwendo, chief shop steward at spin knit, said it is unfortunate that companies could not showcase their products on Labour Day.
“Such happenings will definitely hamper industrialization in the country,” Said Kweondo, who called on COTU affiliates and country leaders to avoid such incidents in the future.
Francis Makhokha, the Nakuru County Government Workers Union secretary, said on phone that the ceremony was cancelled after COTU failed to dispatch money to facilitate the celebrations.
Florence Chepkorir, treasurer of Maendeleo Ya Wanawake in the County (MYW) said she expected the celebration to attract more women to share their success and challenges in areas of employment.
