LSK will censure Kimaiyo over Iringo warrant

Nairobi - The Law Society of Kenya will censure Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo if he does not follow through with the arrest of Interior PS Mutea Iringo.
An arrest warrant issued to Interior Permanent Secretary Mutea Iringo
might go unheeded after the police said it will amount to 'embarrassing'
Iringo had been issued with a warrant of arrest
by High Court judge George Odunga Monday after he failed to appear in
court to answer to a court case.
LSK chair Eric Mutua said in a statement Wednesday that the act by Kimaiyo not to arrest Iringo would provide grounds for LSK to press for his removal from duty due to negligence.
" The country can survive a debate over failure by Parliament to obey a
court decision which the House views as infringing on the Constitutional
mandate of the legislature. We cannot however afford a situation where
the I.G tells the court and the public that he will not execute a warrant
on account of the fact that it is directed to a senior member of
government,” said Mutua.
But in a rejoinder, Kimaiyo said he had no reason whatsoever not to arrest Iringo.
“I want to make it clear without any contradiction that all Court orders
once served to the National Police Service must be executed in
accordance with the law, therefore no one is indispensable that cannot
be arrested and prosecuted,” Kimaiyo said, adding that his office will act
accordingly once the warrant of arrest is imposed.
Iringo has flouted a number of arrest warrants and it waits to be seen if the latest instruction from the courts will be heeded by the police.
