Koinange sidekick Gachoka escapes arrest, released on bail

20 May 2015, 18:38 Victor Tinto

Nairobi - Tony Gachoka, wanted by police over contempt of court charges together with TV host Jeff Koinange has been released on bail.

The PR guru and political analyst was wanted together with Koinange for his role in contempt of court, accrued after failing to appear in court despite a summon by the Nairobi magistrates court.

He arrived in court Wednesday after the High Court Tuesday dropped arrest warrants issued against the two personalities after Koinange argued in court that he was informed of the contempt of court charges through the media.

Gachoka was released on a KES 50,000 bail.

Koinange, a well known and liked presenter of the highly popular show 'Jeff Koinange Live' was arrested outside his Nairobi home Tuesday morning by uniformed police officers.

Koinange had  tried in vain Monday to have his arrest and that of Gachoka, ordered last week by a Nairobi magistrate be stopped at the High Court as he was deemed not to have followed valid court processes.

Magistrate Maisy Chesang last week issued a warrant of arrest against the two for failing to appear in court to answer charges of contempt.

The two are accused of discussing businessman Jimmy Wanjigi, Sani Mbui Wanjigi and their company, the Kwacha Group during Koinange’s Jeff Koinange Live Show JKL, this despite the court order barring it.

The two had linked Wanjigi's company to the KES 6 billion Anglo Leasing scandal.

The JKL show airs on the Kenya Television Network station KTN.
