Koinange arrest draws criticism from disillusioned Kenyans

Nairobi - The arrest of TV host Jeff Koinange has brought mixed feelings amongst Kenyans, many disillusioned by the arrest of a man they take as a hero.
Kenyans were shocked by his arrest Tuesday, borne out of his refusal to follow a court order allegedly stopping him from speaking about certain individuals on his Jeff Koinange Live Show.
Koinange, whose show seeks to battle misdeeds that occur in the country and encourages healthy talk between political foes, is a hit amongst Kenyans who find his mix of humour and serious matters a joy to behold.
So his arrest Tuesday was bound to attract negative comments from Kenyans.
" Jeff's arrest is a fightback from corrupt individuals who find his show repulsive," blogger Robert Alai commented on Twitter.
" Jeff Koinange has been arrested? Are Ruto, Keter, Kidero and Joho still free?," Ronald Mackio, referring to political leaders still free despite several ills, said.
" They arrested Jeff Koinange but they have failed to arrest that TSC bigwig yet they know his office.. smh," Internet Mogul said on his Twitter account.
Kenyans on the streets of Nairobi were also upset with the developments.
" This is Kenya. The people who have done nothing wrong morally are being arrested but those who have committed grievous crimes are free and can never be arrested, Jackson Bwire, a pharmacist said.
" It is disappointing that they can arrest a person who means no harm to society but those who have cost us billions of shillings are given state positions and live nice lives. It is a travesty," Isaac Oloo, a plumber added.
Koinange tried in vain Monday to have his arrest, ordered last week
by a Nairobi magistrate be stopped at the High Court as he was deemed
not to have followed valid court processes.
Through lawyer Gitobu Imanyara, Koinange was forced to wait till Wednesday when the matter will be heard.
High Court judge Weldon Korir directed Koinange to serve the
Attorney-General and the magistrate’s court with their application for
inter-partes hearing on Wednesday.
