Kisumu Municipal Council to build 3 more bus parks

The Municipal Council of Kisumu intends to build 3 more bus parks outside the city centre in a move aimed at decongesting the town.
According to the council’s Assistant Town Clerk Nicholas Okola, the new bus parks will be established at Otonglo trading centre along the Kisumu - Busia road, Nyamasaria area on the Kisumu - Nairobi highway and near Kondele on the Kisumu - Kakamega road.
Okola said plans are also underway to relocate hawkers to designated areas behind the Kenya National Assurance Plaza in an effort to streamline their business in the Lakeside town.
He further warned land rate defaulters that they risk losing their plots if they fail to pay their dues to the council.
“We are asking defaulters to make their payments lest they face prosecution and their properties auctioned,” he warned.
He revealed that only about 20 per cent of the commercial land owners and tenants had paid up between September 1 and November 30, 2012 with about KES 89 million being realized.
