14 January 2014, 17:03 Harrison Mbungu

Mombasa - Security chiefs in Kisauni, Mombasa County, have declared war on the drugs menace in the district.

The Kisauni security committee chair Tom Anjere, Kisauni OCPD Julius Wanjohi, and Boaz Buga who is the officer in charge of administration police have vowed to crackdown on all drug peddlers in the region.

The heads, led by the Kisauni district security committee Chair Anjere, said the drug menace has been a threat to national security.

"Our officers have been deployed to carry out a crackdown on drug users here in Ziwa la Ngome, and soon we will bring the key peddlers into book," said Anjere.

Speaking during a security meeting with Ziwa la Ngombe locals in Bombolulu, Anjere warned the chiefs against sleeping on their job.

Anjere criticized the area ward rep for defending the youth who have been arrested by police over drugs.

He warned that any chief or assistant chief caught co-operating with criminals will be arrested and charged with an offense.

“I want to send a stern warning to the chiefs and assistant chiefs that there should be a change of attitude; we shall not spare those who fail to commit themselves to their duties,” said Anjere.

He cited Ziwa la Ngombe area in Bombolulu as the main hotspot of drug trafficking.

Last week, some youths who were intoxicated with some substance were arrested for disrupted a meeting that was being convened by area MP Awiti Mbollo.

Kisauni OCPD Julius Wanjohi told the press that already 135 drug users in the district have been arrested and charged.
