Kiraitu urged to run for presidency

04 July 2012, 15:53Tony Karomo

Meru County leaders have challenged Energy Minister Kiraitu Murungi to contest for the presidency come 2017.

The leaders have claimed that Meru region has enough votes to spring him to state house other than always back their central Kenya cousins to clinch to power.

“We challenge Kiraitu to go for the coveted seat come next general elections. He should not fear other contesters since he is qualified both politically and financially to join the race. We cannot live to desperately begs to support other candidates from other regions,” said Karauri.

Karauri wondered why the Minister is desperately looking for a driver of the Alliance Party of Kenya (APK) while he can powerfully pilot the bus to state house.

Karauri urged the South Imenti MP who is the founder of the Alliance party of Kenya (APK) to join the statehouse seat come 2017 noting most of other communities in the country have fielded their own presidential candidates.

Speaking on behalf of more than 300 professional and Christian leaders at Githongo market in Imenti Central District recently, the former Tigania East MP said the face of Meru need to be reflected in the next forthcoming general elections.

He said almost all other political parties in the country have a presidential candidate and challenged the Energy minister to use to the occasion by contesting for the highest seat in Kenya for the sake of the party and the Meru community.

“Kiraitu formed the Bus party. Why should he look for a presidential candidate to be the flag bearer of the party he formed himself,” he said

He urged Kenyans and the Meru community in particular to ensure they elect a nationalist who has proven good track record, experience and a corrupt free person for the country as the next president after president Kibaki term exit power.

Karauri cautioned residents that if they elect corrupt leaders who looted the public coffers in the past and have no proven track record or experience in both the national and county seats they will not be able to attract donor funding from the international communities.

The call has come after Kiraitu’s dream of attracting Presidential candidate Uhuru Kenyatta to be the APK flag bearers look more remote following the launch of TNA party recently.

However following the immense support of TNA and presidential candidate Uhuru Kenyatta in Meru County has led to the call of leaders to ask Energy Minister to consider vying for the presidency come the next general election.
