Bungoma - An official of the Kimilili Constituency Development Fund (CDF) committee has been suspended by the area MP Suleiman Murunga, pending investigation over claims of misappropriation of funds from the kitty.
Speaking to journalists on Thursday evening, Murunga said Peter Simiyu, a secretary of the funds committee has been sent parking to allow an audit of the accounts, following reports of embezzlement of KES 2 million from the CDF kitty that was meant to fund two projects in the constituency.
“The KES 2 million that we believe was misappropriated by the secretary together with others was meant for the completion of new CDF offices and a driving school project in the constituency. I have ordered a thorough audit of the projects which has already been launched and if it’s found there were any shady deals, the official together with his accomplices will face the rule of the law,” said Murunga.
George Okiru, from Maeni Ward, has been appointed to take up the Kimilili CDF Committee secretarial position in an acting capacity.
The legislator at the same time announced that he suspended all ongoing projects funded by the CDF kitty in the sub-county, and said that he has ordered for an audit report to establish how they have been carried out.
“As the representative of the people, I want to be sure that the residents of Kimilili who elected me get value for their money. I will not accept anyone to misappropriate even a penny of the taxpayer’s money. I won't hesitate even to fire those working with me, if at all I get reports that they are misappropriating funds meant for the public,” said the lawmaker, who admitted that he has received a lot of complaints from the public concerning how the CDF funds have been handled.
