Police in Nyeri County are looking for a man who brutally murdered his girlfriend who is a university student .

A first – year- student at Kimathi University College of Technology in Nyeri County was murdered on Monday by the man who has since gone underground.

The 19-year-old student Valentine Wanjiku who hails from Othaya was first raped by her boyfriend on Monday before being stabbed on the neck several times with two kitchen knives at Ruring'u estate in Nyeri town on Monday.

They first boarded a taxi from Nyeri town to the estate which is few kilometers away where the suspect stays in his mother's house where he murdered the girl.

The 25- year - old suspect had just finished university and was working as a cashier in the mother's chemist in Nyeri town.

It is alleged that the man was paying the school fees of the girl and was later suspected of an illicit love affair which angered him.

Nyeri Police Boss Kirunya Limbitu said the suspect was using a bed sheet to cover her mouth in order for the neighbours not to hear screams during the 10am incident.

The suspect has since gone underground and police have launched manhunt for him.
