Kimalel goat auction is set for December 18

Barongo - The famous Kimalel goat auction is set to happen on 18th of December at Kimalel grounds Marigat in Barongo County.
The event which was re-launched a year ago by
President Uhuru, Deputy President Ruto and Former President Daniel arap Moi
after a ten year absence will take three days and will see boat race and 10km
road race for both men and women take place at the first day.
The 2nd day will have music and cultural festival
and youth talent and enterprise performed before the final day of goat auction.
Speaking during the launch at Kenyatta
International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi, Baringo governor Benjamin
Cheboi said the exercise is good as it empowers citizens of the county to lead
a descent life.

He added that livestock is the key sector that will
improve the county and his government is determined to ensure that it’s
maximizing it in order to tap their economy.
"We want to increase the value of our assets.
We must start rearing goats for both meat and milk to create enough wealth for
the county," he said.
Cheboi urged Baringo people living in Nairobi to
help them build the county as he assured them of their security saying the head
of state is determined to end the cattle rustling incidences in the county.
"There is no other better investor than us and
we should come and help in improving the county by creating more wealth,"
He added that they will make the event much better
and said measures have been put in place so that they can have an e-booking for
people who shall not make it to the ground in the day of the auction.
"If we will have five people wanting five goats each, we will transport
them to their destination of choice," he said.
Minister for Agriculture in the County Mr. Luka
Rotich said the county government is contemplating on making the event a
monthly event and they will help farmers market the goats to high end hotels.
He added that the department is upgrading the goats by introducing new breeds.
"We have set goats improving centres in
Mogotio, Chemotet and Rimose," he said adding the future of Kimalel goat
auction is good.
The auction was started by retired President Moi to
help farmers raise money to enhance their livelihoods but collapsed ten years
ago before being re-launched by the County government.

were sold at shs 8000 each and they collected more than ten million in last
The launch was attended by majority of the National
Assembly leaders who hails from the county and they pledged their support.
