The incident took place at Kawempe trading center, 10 kms west of Kampala.
The car in which the children died was parked in a parking yard, where it had been left by its owner for several weeks after developing a mechanical problem.
According to Kawempe police criminal ivestigations boss, Deo Odongo, the four children incliuding old Zamu Nagawa, 2, Amos Ainebyona, 2, Diana Murungi, 4 and Elvis Ssenungi, 5, belonged to different families.
''The children locked themselves in the vehicle in the morning at around 9.00 am. The parents started looking for them at around midday but could not find them. They reported to police and we also helped them in looking for the children,'' said Odongo.
He said that at around 6.00 pm, someone was passing near the vehicle when he heard someone knocking the windscreen of the vehicle. On looking inside, he saw the kids.
