Kidero to construct 100 000 cheap houses for Nairobians

Nairobi – Nairobi Governor, Evans Kidero has announced that his government is set to build 100 000 affordable housing units for 650 000 residents with lesser earnings.
Kidero said the housing project to be rolled out in various estates in the county is among his key seven priority projects including those in Old and New Ngara estate, Pangani, Jeevanjee or Bachelors place at city center, Ngong Road Inspectorate staff quarters, Uhuru and Suna Road.
“The County government recently advertised a tender for the Urban renewal project. On the 30th September the Nairobi City County Government will host 20 bidders to a session which will be used to seek clarification regarding the tender documents and the project itself,” said Kidero.

“The bidders will thereafter be required to submit their Request for Proposal’s (RFP’s) which will be evaluated,” he added.
Kidero stated that the Urban Renewal Project which incorporates the construction of the housing units will be awarded to the winner of the Joint Venture partnership set foe announcement in November this year to implement the seven projects.
“Ground breaking and construction commencement will be done in February 2016. The more than USD 3 billion project is slated to be bigger than the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) and is set to give Nairobi a major face-lift,” said Kidero.
He assured that currents tenants that the housing project will not affect them instead priority will be given to them and all residents at large to ensure the county realizes its anticipated # a ?#?BetterCityBetterLife dream which also included the city beautification such as the renown #?KideroGrass initiative.
