Kick ODM rebels out, angry Raila says
23 February 2015, 13:37
Nairobi - Orange Democratic Movement ODM leader Raila Odinga is ready to kick out rebel MPs from the party as he looks to restructure the party ahead of the 2017 General Election.
The usually laid back Raila is understood to have grown frustrated with the number of party members openly going against protocol and rules.
He is said to have especially been angered by the move by some MPs and leaders to openly vouch for Philip Okundi in the recent Homa Bay senatorial by elections.
And in a message delivered by ODM chairman John Mbadi, Raila is keen to straighten the party as plans to kick on towards 2017 begin.
" There will be changes before the next election," Mbadi said Sunday of the plans by the party.
" He (Raila) wants changes and wants to see the persons against the party shift out and others who are loyal and have better ideas brought on board," he added.
The utterances from Raila were apparently said during a burial ceremony in Homa Bay Sunday.
The lawmakers are Mr James Rege (Karachuonyo), Mr George Oner (Rangwe),
Mr Agostino Neto Oyugi (Ndhiwa) and Mrs Millie Odhiambo (Ndhiwa).
Odhiambo was apparently on the fence as concerns the matter, failing to declare support for either side.
The rest simply openly went against the party.
Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero was also in hot water but he withdrew his support for Okundi after being advised against supporting the former Rangwe MP.
