Kibaki's former aid wants EACC investigated

Nyeri - A former security advisor to retired President Mwai Kibaki has called for a complete audit of the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC).
Esau Kioni, who is also the Democratic Party (DP) Nyeri branch chair, said the recent wrangles between EACC commissioners has shown there is a serious problem in the commission that needs to be resolved.
“The current wars pitting the two against each other have nothing to do with fighting corruption. It is abetting graft,” said Kioni.
He added: “There is likelihood that they want to protect the interests of their corrupt friends.”

He said the infighting has tarnished the name of the commission, thus the need for it to be investigated.
“That is the only way we can assure our people that we have the capacity to fight graft,” he said.
Kioni has been a vocal politician in Nyeri since he retired from the Kibaki administration and now chairs DP, the party which was originally founded by Mwai Kibaki.
