Nyeri - Former President Mwai Kibaki’s elder brother, Bernard Nderitu Kibaki has died at his home in Iriani village Othaya constituency, Nyeri County.
Nderitu, 88, collapsed at his house on Monday evening, his son John Kibaki said.
Kibaki said his father was ailing from prostate cancer and sometimes pneumonia during cold weather.
He has been in and out of hospitals seeking treatment.
“My father was well since morning and he had taken his medicines. On Sunday he had met his friends at the neighbouring village and was very jovial. He collapsed at the doorstep heading to his bedroom and was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital,” said Kibaki.

Nderitu was diagnosed with the cancer in 2003 and was immediately admitted at a South African hospital for treatment.
At the beginning of this year, the father of 11 spent two weeks at hospital.
“He was the major source of advice in the village due to his advanced age and respect that he had earned from residents,” said Kibaki, adding that the death reports have already been communicated to the former head of state and his family.
Nderitu, who was living a humble life, was a hardworking tea and dairy farmer.
The body is lying at Nyeri Outspan funeral home as burial arrangements continue.
