President Mwai Kibaki has said the government will soon be doubling the National Youths Service recruitment so as to create more employment for youths who are joining the job market.
Kibaki said the government has already put necessary infrastructures towards the new recruitment process.
Speaking in GilGil on Tuesday during a pass out of 5 550 graduates from the National Youth Service, Kibaki said there was need to increase the number of youths joining the administration saying the NYS had played a crucial role ever since inception.
The President further directed that 20% of the NYS graduates should join the Kenya Defense Force and Regular Police while emphasizing that the youths will be taught how to possess a sense of patriotism.
“The government has put the needed steps and measures to ensure that our youth gets the needed skills through the learning impacted on them,” said the president.
Kibaki also challenged other government departments to follow suit in tapping the potential of NYS graduates adding that the youth manpower was equally important in building the country.
