Nairobi – Kakamega Senator, Boni Khalwale has accepted an invitation to attend the burial of a woman his driver killed in a road accident on Saturday morning.
Khalwale who informed other senators of his decision to pay the woman homage during House proceedings said he was saddened by the death of Mercy Chelimo after his car hit her along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway.
“The family has accepted my friendship and invited me to participate in the final burial arrangements. We are with them at this difficult time,” said Khalwale.
He added that he had already met some of Chelimo’s family members to discuss her burial arrangements as he assured of his total cooperation.

“It doesn’t matter if the pedestrian was on the wrong or the machine (Vehicle). What matters is that we lost a life of a dear Kenyan,” he said.
Khalwale cited the deceased’s brothers; Pius Sambai who is a former Military officer, Kennedy Too and Gilbert Tenai as some of the people he met at the KICC in Nairobi to discuss the burial arrangements.
Chelimo’s mother, Emily Kurgat reportedly said that she was uncertain about the fate of her other children since the deceased was the family’s breadwinner who played a critical role in feeding and educating them.
Khalwale and his driver were travelling from Nairobi to Kakamega when their vehicle hit 31-year-old Chelimo who was reportedly standing by the road at around 8 o’clock in the morning.
Chelimo left behind an 11-year-old-daughter who attends a private school.
