Khalwale promises fair hearing for impeached Embu governor

11 February 2014, 15:41 Victor Tinto

Nairobi - Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale has promised a fair hearing for Embu governor Martin Wambora as his impeachment woes continue.

The Embu governor is facing impeachment after members of his county assembly voted to have him ousted from office for alleged misuse of public funds.

Wambora has argued that he has been unfairly treated by the house and wants the impeachment charge against him dropped.

The governor and his deputy Dorothy Nditi have even gone to court to contest the impeachment and subsequent hearing by the senate, but their plea has gone unheard.

" I would like to ask for a fair hearing during the senate committee meeting and for them to accept that I have gone through the right processes to ensure that I am cleared approproately, Wambora said Monday.

In a rejoinder, Kakamega senator Khalwale promised that the governor would be given a fair hearing when the committee meets to deliberate his fate on Friday.

" He will be handed a fair hearing just as any elected official will. We have so far followed the right path in handling this matter and that will not change.

" It is important that we exercise fairness in this matter and I would like to allay the governor's fears, he said Tuesday.

The governor and his deputy will lose his seat if more than 24 of the 47 senators support the impeachment.
