Key Raila ally Jakakimba quits ODM after Homa Bay fiasco

Nairobi - Silas Ouko Jakakimba, a long time member of ODM and former PM Raila Odinga's Personal Assistant has quit the party after he was overlooked for the Homa Bay Senatorial seat.
Jakakimba resigned from the party Tuesday afternoon after it was decided that Moses Kajwang represent the party in the February 12 by election.
In a letter to the party secretariat, he did not state his reason for quitting but according to sources he was displeased by the decision to directly nominate the party candidate as compared to actual voting.
" He was highly demotivated after learning of the party decision to choose a person who has not been in the party two months while he has been loyal for over a decade, a source close to Jakakimba told News24.
In his letter, Jakakimba thanks the party and leader Odinga for his time but asked to be de-registered immediately.
" I hereby tender my resignation as a member of the party with immediate effect. Please take my name of the party register with immediate effect. Your urgent action on this matter will be highly appreciated," he said.
It is likely that he will move to a different party to run for the election, a decision that might haunt ODM, with many in Homa Bay not convinced on Kajwang's candidature.
In its decision to go with Kajwang, the party said it had conducted a survey in the County and confirmed that he was the most popular candidate among residents.
