Keter ordered to appear in court

Nairobi - Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter and his counterpart Sonia Birdi will be taken to Naivasha to answer for his corruption charges.
The two have been asked to appear in person Wednesday to answer to charges of creating disturbance.
The two MPs lost a bid to stop their trial Tuesday after High Court Judge Mumbi Ngugi ruled that it would amount to interference with the procedure of justice.
She said that the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions DPP had to be given the benefit of a doubt to push the cases forward, stating that the two MP's rights had not been violated by pushing the case forward.
" I am happy that there is no strong reason to show that a right of the respondents would be violated if the Director of Public Prosecution goes ahead," she stated.
The two have been taken to court by the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commision EACC over a ploy to have a lorry released at a weight bridge in Gilgil illegally.
The two were recorded on tape threatening weight bridge officers after their request was denied.
The MPs had moved to court to contest the action by the DPP to charge them, claiming that the intended prosecution was political, discriminatory and meant to discredit them.
Their lawyer Okong'o Omogeni argued that the EACC intended to interfere with their freedom by prosecuting them with offences which fall under the Leadership and Integrity Act.
He insisted that the decision was illegal and that EACC could only institute proceedings under the Anti-Corruption and Economic crimes Act, for those suspected to have engaged in corruption, which they were not accused of by the EACC.
