Kenyans should learn from Madiba

Hope, determination, forgiveness, endurance. These are the words that run through my mind when I think of one of Africa’s greatest icons, Nelson Mandela. The man who struggled to see that the oppressed black majority in South Africa got to the place they are today. Hope that things will be better no matter the situation one is in. Determination to make it through the worst of situations. Forgiving those who wrong you, no matter the gravity of their actions. Having the strength to endure all situations in life and to come out on top.
Through the stories I have heard and read about this great man over the years, I came to learn the importance of forgiveness. I cannot help but think that were it not for him bringing all South Africans together upon independence, the country would not have known what it means to live together as one society, without caring about the colour of one’s skin. He inspired the whole nation to love one another and to put all their differences aside, to think of the nation above all else.
Kenya should learn from this great man, a man who believed that it is better to forgive than to carry the burden of bearing grudges against those who wronged you. We should put our differences aside, be they ethnic, political or social before they bring our great nation to her knees.
Madiba, you are one of Africa’s greats and we wish you a quick recovery.
