Kenyans remember musical great E-sir
16 March 2015, 19:06
Nairobi - He died at the very top of his game 12 years ago but Kenyans have not forgotten lyrical genius Esir and what he stood for.
Esir died in a road accident along the Nairobi- Nakuru highway in 2003 while still carrying the tag of the best musician in Kenya, a death that shocked many to the core of their lives.
Kenyans have thus come out to remember the rapper, famed for a bevy of hit songs.
Not to be left behind were musicians Sauti Sol, who in a touching post on
their official Facebook page, paid tribute to the
late great king of Swahili rap, who passed on today almost 12 years ago.
The group wrote this post calling the fallen rapper "The most talented musician
to ever hold a mic."
The rapper passed on after he and
his colleagues, including David Mathenge (Nameless) were involved in a horrific
road accident. They were coming back to Nairobi from a concert that they had
just finished preforming at when tragedy struck, taking away arguably one of
the most inspired rappers to ever come out of Kenya.
The rapper passed on
on the 16th of March in 2003, possibly one of the saddest days in
the music industry in Kenya.
Sauti Sol who currently hold the title of best
Kenyan musicians paid their respects to the one of the former holders in a post
that read, " On this
day, 12 years ago, a dark cloud covered our skies as we lost one of Kenya's
finest and most gifted musicians to ever hold the mic. His deft lyrical ability
and command of the Swahili flow was unmatched. Even long after his death, his
music and legacy still lives on and on in our hearts. We miss you bro, till we
meet again !!! #RIP #ESIR".
