Nairobi - Kenyans have ignored warnings over the upcoming El Nino rains, the Kenya Red Cross KRC has lamented.
KRC boss in Kenya Abbas Gullet says that warnings by both the government as well as other agencies to Kenyans to prepare for the rains have yet to be heeded.
He says that he fears that the effects of the huge rains will hit Kenyans hard.
" We have undertaken serious campaigns to ensure Kenyans are ready for El Nino but nothing has been heeded so far," he complained Wednesday in Nairobi.
According to Gullet, Kenya is still not prepared for the rains which are expected to cause havoc in the country.
" The levels of preparation are still not satisfactory. I foresee a situation where Kenyans approach El Nino unprepared and that is scary," he added.
The rains were expected to begin in the early days of October but with they yet to officially kick off, Kenyans have been in relax mode.
The government has set aside KES 15 billion to deal with effects of the rains which are expected to continue till January.
