Nairobi - Graffiti has been a huge part of Kenyan urban culture, with
a lot of it being featured on most matatu’s and busses.
This culture was
brought to a grinding half a few years back when graffiti was banned from
public service vehicles, but was recently given a fresh breath of life by the
president of the republic, Uhuru Kenyatta.
Since then, the matatu industry has been hit
by wave after wave of artistic and futuristic vehicles coming from some of the
best designers from the region.
A group of youth and artists from the urban areas of Nairobi
have decided to come up with a series called Street Matatu Lifestyle, which
shines a spotlight on this vibrant matatu culture.
It follows these vehicles
from when they get into the shop for “pimping” till they get to the streets,
and shows just how deep this culture goes. Its producers Tabernacle Productions
have just released a teaser video which you can check out here.
