After the weekend results, the Kenyan Premier League title
hunt has now fallen open and all teams are now on the same playing level. Two
weeks ago, AFC leopards had opened a seven point gap but after gathering just a
point in their last three matches, the chasing pack has caught up with them.
Ingwe suffered their biggest defeat of their campaign going
down a massive 3-0 to struggling Nairobi City Stars at the Nyayo National
Stadium. Ugandan Dann Serunkuma struck a brace and assisted the other as
Leopards were mauled.
The result favored Tusker and Sofapaka who both won their
matches. ON Saturday in the early kick off, Jery Santos scored twice as the
defending champions came from a goal down to beat Rangers FC 4-2.
On Monday night, Sofapaka, the 2009 Champions reduced the
gap between them and Leopards to just a point after Humphrey Mieno’s brace gave
them a 2-0 win over Mathare United. Salim Ali was facing his former employers
for the first time.
Thika United continued with their impressive run maintaining
their slot in the top five with a 1-0 win away to Oserian in Naivasha. The win
sees Thika sit at 4th place while Oserian, making a comeback to the
league just this season, sit at the base of the table.
2010 Champions Ulinzi Stars gave their best match of the
season against Western Stima in Kakamega but still luck never smiled their way.
They would feel dejected especially after losing 1-0 to the power men, a goal
scored ten minutes from time, and having a goal disallowed in the ninth minute.
They will however rue their missed chances after completely dominating the
match.
Gor Mahia continued their revival with a 1-0 win over
Chemelil, though the sugar men wil also feel aggrieved after having a goal
disallowed. The win takes Gor Mahia to 10th place on 16 points.
In other matches played over the weekend, Sony Sugar and
Karuturi Sports played to a barren draw, while KCB beat Muhoroni Youth 2-1.
