Nairobi - The government through the Ministry of Devolution and Planning has received relief donations from Russia.
The donations, which include 300 blankets, 150 tents and utensils for emergency relief in flood prone areas, were handed to Devolution Cabinet Secretary, Anne Waiguru by Russian Ambassador to Kenya Alexander Makarenko.
Waiguru who was accompanied by Devolution Principal Secretary John Konchellah at the National Cereals and Produce Board depot in Nairobi said the government appreciates the support the Russian government has accorded to Kenya.
“The donations will help alleviate some of the problems currently being experienced in various parts of the country especially in flood prone areas,” Waiguru added.
She thanked the Ambassador and assured him that the donations will go a long way in assisting needy Kenyans.
Speaking at the same event, Ambassador Makarenko said his government has been providing assistance to Kenya during emergencies like drought and floods.
“The Russian government has been consistent in supplying relief consignments when called upon by the Kenya government,” he said.
The donations come a few weeks after floods wrecked havoc in Namanga town where a 7-year-old child died, property destroyed and families displaced.
